I love Tom and Jerry.
Therefore, i thought its high time i start putting my new Preston knowledge to use and breakdown some of my favourite cartoon characters!
So here's Jerry so far,
Right now i think the relationship between the muzzle and cheeks is the most important thing to practise with him, especially since they're so squishy it can be easy to mess it up!

Preston Blair Lesson 5
Here's my lesson 5.
This was the hardest so far.
On the last two i will admit to some lightboxing ( cheating ). Although i didn't rely on it completely, i used it to see what was going on because i find lines become very abstract after a while and its difficult to eyeball scale and shape!
All i can say is try messing with the angles and perhaps break this up into segments and perfect those if you have the time. I also tried using the box and including an angled centre line in CG. It kinda helps.

Preston Blair Lesson 2
Hey ya'al, Knocked this out now, lemme know your thoughts.
I gotta say this was harder than i expected, i think its the angle, its so hard to see the proportions of the shapes when there is nothing around it. So i made a box in PS! Ha! Also good to note is the fact that within the lines in the front and back of the head there are many triangles and quads that can be seen as shapes ( top left for example ) This really helped me break the proportions up. The overlay is pretty good and i think i was happy with my second attempt.

Preston Blair Lesson 1
I was invited to study Cartoon Fundamentals here on Blogger :
We're munching through the Preston Blair book, here's my first attempt at the first 'lesson' on the blog, much more to come!
I think the last one's the best and final attempt but the jawline could be raised, what do you think?

Cartoon Backgrounds
Hello everyBAADy,
Here are some backgrounds i did last year for a 2D animated PSA. Hope ya'al like it.This is actually for the last scene, its a mad run towards the horizon. This one's for the door opening scene, the husband arrives home and announces the classic.. HONEY.. I'm HOME!
This is the 'puppy rush the daddy' shot. Imagine the wife over an ironing board on the right. Look at the cute puppy in the frame.. oh dear! I had a great time making these and they are the first cartoon backgrounds i've ever attempted, i think i've learned a fair bit since then.. now all i need is a project to hone them..

I had some extra juice left over today so i knocked out some quick sketches of Ren, i gotta say he's really hard to grasp. I account this fact to the shear amount of stretching and squashing he can do. I'm trying to remember to keep him expressive. The last drawing is my own pose, perhaps its to clique? I dunno, but i do know I need to practise him more before i pretend to know what he's made of.

Irving away
Been planning to upload this guy for a while now, i dunno if this obeys ALL the rules.
If i could change or crit myself i'd say the silhouette isn't as strong as it could be, also i fear he's somewhat slimmer in the Tex Avery toons. I also think my feet and hands need work, but wow did i enjoy doing this, especially the colors i love them, nice and toned down, soft even.
Feel free to crit some more guys, i'm here to share and learn! :D
